ECP suspends 261 legislatures for hiding financial details

The notification ceased the functioning of the suspended members of the National Assembly, Senate, and provincial assemblies until they submit their financial statements.

LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday suspended the membership of 261 lawmakers for not submitting the details of their assets and liabilities under sub-section 42A of the Representation of People Act (RoPA) by September 30.

The notification ceased the functioning of the suspended members of the National Assembly, Senate, and provincial assemblies until they submit their financial statements.

The notification has suspended the seven senators, 71 MNAs, 84 Punjab Assembly MPAs, 50 Sindh Assembly MPAs, 38 Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa MPAs, and 11 Balochistan MPAs.

The list of suspended legislatures also includes the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’ (PML-N) Captain (retd) Safdar, Talal Chaudhry and Abid Sher Ali.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI’s) estranged member Ayesha Gulalai has also been suspended.
