Avenfield case: Former PM Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar indicted in accountability court

ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and her husband Capt (retd) Safdar on Thursday morning appeared in an an accountability court in respect to the hearing of the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) references against them.

During the hearing that went underway, Maryam and Captain (retd) Safdar’s counsel, Amjad Pervez, requested accountability judge Mohammad Bashir not to indict them on the basis of no documents provided to them including volume 10 of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report.

The NAB prosecutor, however, opposed them saying that the accused were provided with a copy of NAB references and witnesses about 10 days ago, therefore, their play to delay indictment should not be heard.

The judge rejected Maryam and Safdar’s request after which Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Ayesha Hamid proceeded to file another petition, requesting the court to re-file the references and combine them as one case.

However, both the pleas were dismissed by the judge after which Nawaz filed another plea requesting the court to combine the three references. But, that too was dismissed.
