Pakistan’s HC to India reportedly meets Sushma Swaraj

LAHORE: Sohail Mahmood, the newly-appointed Pakistan High Commissioner (HC) to India, Sohail Mahmood met Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj earlier this
week, the Times of India reported.

Matters pertaining to cross-border terrorism, besides the Mumbai and Pathankot attacks, came under discussion during the meeting, TOI quoted official sources as saying.

According to reports, Swaraj pressed the Pakistani envoy to drop all charges against arrested Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, whose death sentence has been challenged by India in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Mahmood is also expected to meet Adviser to Indian Prime Minister Ajit Doval and India’s Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Days after the meeting, on the occasion of Diwali, Swaraj had announced medical visas for deserving Pakistanis whose applications were pending with India.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office is yet to confirm or deny reports of the meeting.

The newly appointed high commissioner, Sohail Mahmood, took charge of the office in August after Abdul Basit retired from the office of the high commissioner.
