SHC issues notices on plea against PM

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued a notice to a federal law officer directing him to respond to a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for allegedly making false statements on the floor of the National Assembly. A division bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi was hearing a petition filed by Maulvi Iqbal Hiader and Maqsood Ahmed, which named law secretary, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry, prime minister, interior minister, ISPR director general, National Assembly secretary, interior secretary, Islamabad deputy commissioner and IG Islamabad as respondents. In the petition, the court has been requested to declare that Nawaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar are disqualified under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution “for speaking lies” in the National Assembly. The hearing of the case has been adjourned until September 2.
