Arrests, dialogue can’t go side by side: Rehman Malik

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Senator Rehman Malik on Saturday condemned the crackdown against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers and appealed to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to monitor the dialogue process himself.

Talking to media men here, Senator Rehman Malik appealed to the government to release PAT and PTI workers so that the talks process can be taken forward, saying that government’s policy to arrest political workers was damaging the negotiations.

He further said arrest of workers and negotiations can’t go side by side, adding that PTI leader Azam Swati was coming to meet him but police arrested him.

Mr. Malik also appealed to the government and protesting parties not to drag the army into this issue as General Raheel Sharif had categorically said himself that he stands in support for democracy.
