Seven sent to jail for storming PTV, 200 protesters held: Ch Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Saturday said identities of 20 people among those who had stormed Pakistan Television building and Parliament House have been ascertained while seven of them have been sent to prison.

He said since both the parties – PTI and PAT – had demanded the arrest of the invaders of PTV, therefore, they should not raise hue and cry over the arrests being made for the past couple of days.

He said the arrests were being made after proper identification with the help of TV footages.

Chauhdry Nisar said both the parties should inform about any erroneous arrests and their complaints will be addressed. “I assure you that innocent persons will not even be touched,” he added.

He said twelve people arrested yesterday had 12-bore repeaters on them and their licenses have not yet been presented. One of them also had a wireless phone, he added.

The Interior Minister also showed the images of protesters carrying batons.

He said as per an intelligence report, five or six terrorists had entered Islamabad on motor cycles and there persist threats of suicide attacks on the sit-ins. This prompted the government to impose a ban on pillion riding in the capital city, he added.

With reference to the talks between the government and PTI that continue to remain deadlocked, he said he would not say anything negative as the dialogue still continues. He, however, said that the demands will be admitted at a table and not on streets.
