LONDON – Muttahida Quami Movement chief Altaf Hussain has appealed to the government to release all workers of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) immediately as a gesture of goodwill.

In an interview, he said that efforts should be made to resolve issues through mutual understanding. He also praised the government for showing patience and restraint in handling the situation, but the government should take recourse to patience a little more and release all workers.

The MQM chief appealed to the PAT and the PTI leaders to restart the process of dialogue and try to resolve issues in a manner that may be acceptable to the government and all other stakeholders. He said that the government should move gently in order to ease the situation.

He said the government was within its right to use the law for maintaining law and order but the situation demands that the law was not misused. About the devastation caused by floods, Altaf said that Punjab and Kashmir were hit hard by floods and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced.

He extended sympathies to the flood victims who lost everything in floods. He prayed Almighty Allah to end the hardships being faced by the people. He said the people affected by floods and heavy rains need the attention. He appealed to the protesting parties to put off their sit-ins in order to help the people affected by the floods.
