INP

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has called off the campaign directing his supporters to write 'Go Nawaz Go' on currency notes.

Talking to media at the PAT sit-in, Qadri said after conducting research that it was found that writing on currency notes was illegal. In a statement the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) clarified to the general public and banks that defacement of currency notes would render the notes ineligible for use.

Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar also cautioned that scribbling or writing on currency notes was illegal and would render them useless. On Sunday, the PAT chief had announced the start of a campaign which called on his supporters to write 'Go Nawaz Go' on currency notes.

The PAT chief also announced the start of a hunger camp.
