Dean of Islamic Studies of KU shot dead

KARACHI - Karachi University (KU) Islamic Studies Faculty Dean Dr Mohammad Shakeel Auj was shot dead by unknown assailants on Thursday forenoon.
According to police sources the senior scholar was on his way to university that was fired upon by unidentified motorcyclists near his residence in Gulshan e Iqbal area. He was immediately shifted to Aga Khan Hospital, however, expired while on his way to the facility.
Dr Shakeel Auj was only this August 14 announced to be conferred upon with Tamgha e Imtiaz for his contribution in the field of education and research. Associated with KU for the past 19 years and heading the Islamic Studies department since February 1, 2012.
He had to his credit 15 books besides editing Al-Tafseer, and Higher Education Council (HEC) - recognised research journal on Islamic Studies. He had also received D Lit degree recently.
