Arrears not paid to IPPs, Power shortfall increases to 4100 MW
INP

LAHORE – Power shortfall increased to 4100 megawatt across Pakistan due to increase in debt of independent power plants and oil companies.

According to National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) sources, the government has failed to provide arrears to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and oil companies. The IPPs are also facing shortage of fuel because oil companies also reduced the supply of fuel therefore electricity generation has been reduced. NTDC said that much of electricity was being generated through hydel power.

According to sources, if the government fails to pay the outstanding bills and the loan, the IPPs units would nearly collapse leading to a severe electricity crisis in Pakistan. Currently, the urban areas are facing 7 hours of usual loadshedding where as 12 hours of unannounced outages have become a normal routine.

On the other hand, the rural areas receive an unrelenting flogging of more than 15 hours of loadshedding daily.
