Don’t take Pakistan’s patience on LoC as weakness: Nawaz

BAGH: In a warning to India over its violations of ceasefire on the Line of Control and Working Boundary and a belligerent posture, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan’s patience should not be taken as its weakness.Nawaz said the hearts of Pakistanis beat in unison with the Kashmiris and warned that the incidents of firing along the Line of Control were a threat to international peace. “Our patience should not be taken as our weakness ... desire for peace is our strength,” the prime minister told a gathering after inaugurating a string of development projects in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He referred to the recent incidents of Indian firing along the Line of Control and killing of civilians and said the firing from across the LoC has also shaken the conscience of the international community.
He termed such incidents a threat to international peace and said Pakistan would continue to raise its voice against the human rights violations and atrocities at all international fora. “We cannot forget those who lost their lives along the Line of Control,” the prime minister said, adding that Pakistani citizens and their properties have also been targeted along the Working Boundary. The prime minister said Pakistan was playing an effective role against terrorism and said it would continue its fight till its elimination from its soil and all those supporting terrorism would also be dealt with.
Operation Zarb-e-Azb is gaining success and would continue till all objectives are achieved, Nawaz said. He mentioned the restoration of peace in Karachi and said incidents of kidnapping for ransom, target killing, extortion have receded to a negligible level and assured that street crime would also be controlled. The prime minister who was on a day-long visit to Bagh inaugurated 42 projects worth Rs 2.70 billion dealing with health, education and basic infrastructure that would benefit a population of over three million in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He also announced a modern cardiac centre will be established in Bagh. Noting that the local people have to travel a long distance, the prime minister assured such hospitals would be established at other places in AJK. He also directed the Punjab government to urgently build a quality road from Kotli Sattian to Kalyari bridge. He also announced construction of a bridge over River Jhelum at Khapdar. The projects include schools, basic health units, administrative offices, roads, clean drinking water, memorial, bus terminal and a sports complex in Bagh, Poonch and Muzaffarabad, in the areas devastated by the 2005 earthquake.
Addressing a gathering at the newly inaugurated Sports Complex Nawaz said he was keen to see widespread development across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He said he would have been more happy to invite the people of Bagh city, so they could personally see the efforts of the government being done for their well being. He promised the pace of development in AJK would be increased and a string of schools, colleges, healthcare units and roads would spring up across the beautiful valleys and hills.
