Army chief confirms death sentence of five terrorists
* Convicts involved in killing of a lawyer in Lahore, sectarian killings in Quetta, attack on police officer in Karachi and attacks on polio teams in Khyber Agency

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has confirmed the death sentences of another five hardcore terrorists, ISPR said on Wednesday.

These terrorists were behind the killing of an advocate in Lahore, sectarian killings in Quetta, killings of police officials at Gudab, Karachi, Bannu jailbreak, attack on a girls’ school in Khyber Agency and an attack on a polio team in Khyber Agency. Out of the six terrorists, five were awarded death sentence and one life imprisonment by the military courts. Giving details of each case, the ISPR said that the convict, a civilian, Muhammad Sabir Shah was an active member of a proscribed organisation. He also abetted in the murder of Advocate Syed Arshad Ali in Lahore.

Convict civilian Hafiz Muhammad Usman was an active member of a proscribed organisation. He was found involved in sectarian killings in Quetta and an attack on police and was convicted for several killings. He was tried on eleven charges and awarded the death sentence. Convict Asad Ali, was an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He was found in possession of firearms and explosives and behind an attack on officials of Sindh Police, which resulted in the death of three individuals.

Convict Mir Shah Jahan was an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He was involved in attacking and breaking of Bannu Jail owing to which a number of terrorists escaped. He was also found involved in attacks on law enforcement agencies, which resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to another soldier. He was tried on three charges and awarded death sentence. Convict Fateh Khan was an active member of a proscribed organisation. He killed a civilian, attacked polio workers, members of a law enforcement agency and armed forces’ personnel. He was tried on eight charges and awarded death sentence. Convict Qari Ameen Shah alias Ameen was an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

He was found involved in attacking a girls primary school in Khyber Agency, providing funds for terrorist activities, detonating an improvised explosive device and possessing explosives. He admitted his offences before the magistrate and the trial court and was tried on four charges and awarded imprisonment for life.
