MQM removes Altaf’s name from constitution

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Farooq Sattar on Thursday once again insisted that the party was being operated from Pakistan, urging the media and authorities not to view the party’s intentions with suspicion.

Addressing a press conference, he said the party has done away with the clauses of the MQM constitution, which seek Altaf Hussain’s instructions.

He said that even before the amendment, he had announced that MQM –Pakistan’s decisions were free from any influence from London.

Farooq Sattar said the party's commitment should not be taken with a pinch of salt. Later talking to Geo News, he rejected the impression that Khawaja Izharul Hassan, who was sitting next to him, received a phone call from London at the press conference.

“Our decision making has nothing to do with London now,” he said. Authorities have launched a massive crackdown against MQM after Altaf Hussain's speech and the violence against media, arresting MQM leaders and sealing its headquarters and offices in Karachi and elsewhere.
