Rabbani, Lord Fowler discuss steps enhancing Pak-UK cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani met the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords, London on Thursday at Westminster.

Lord Fowler – the Lord Speaker – assumed office on September 1 and Rabbani’s meeting with him was his first official engagement, said a press release. Both sides discussed mutual cooperation and greater exchange of parliamentary information and procedures.

The chairman spoke of the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in building and strengthening relationship between Pakistan and the UK. He also spoke of exchange of delegation of members of parliament.

Rabbani invited the Lord Speaker to visit Pakistan in the near future and drew the attention of the Lord Speaker to the blatant violation of human rights in Indian-held Kashmir. He highlighted the injuries and deaths of several hundred innocent civilians.

Rabbani said the use of the pellet guns resulted in hundreds of children losing their eyesight and also reiterated the implementation of the UN’s resolution. He also pointed out that British soil should not be allowed to be used for the export of violence in Pakistan.
