85% medical stores in Punjab still running without pharmacists

By: APP

LAHORE: Despite a massive crackdown launched by the drug inspectors, around 85% medical stores in the province are still being run without a pharmacist.

This was stated by Patients’ Rights Forum Chairman Noor Mehar in an exclusive talk with APP on Sunday. He said that hundreds of medical stores had been sealed in the province for not having pharmacists yet several are still operational. To a question, he said that there are over 20,000 medical stores in Punjab while 4,000 are operating only in Lahore and 85% of those are being run without pharmacists.

When asked about the condition of other provinces, he said that over 90% medical stores are operating without pharmacists in other provinces. He regretted that even an assistant dispenser was also allowed to run a medical store in other provinces.

He said that the Drug Court in Lahore gave a verdict a few weeks ago to seal all medical stores which are being run without pharmacists. The judge directed Punjab Chief Drug Inspector Zakaur Rehman to take action against the medical stores which are being run without pharmacists.
