Pakistan, Portugal to augment bilateral ties

LISBON: In the first round of Pakistan-Portugal Bilateral Political Consultations, held at Lisbon, the two countries have agreed to enhance collaboration in trade, investment, defense, cultural, people-to-people contacts and parliamentary exchanges.

Additional Foreign Secretary, Iftekhar Aziz, led the Pakistan delegation while the Portuguese mission was headed by Political Director, Francisco Durate Lopes. Aziz also called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal Secretary General as well as the its Secretary of State. He also visited the Pakistan-Portugal Parliamentary Friendship Group and met its President and selected think tanks.

The two sides also discoursed over a wide range of issues of mutual interest including trade and investment, defense, cultural cooperation, people-to-people contacts and parliamentary exchanges. Both the delegations also stressed on the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in these diverse areas. Aziz also talked at length about the achievements of the present administration with regard to improvements in law and order situation, institutional strengths and economic standing.
