PM for expediting relief activities in rain-hit Karachi

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has directed authorities concerned to expedite relief activities in rain-hit Karachi.

Besides extending assistance to the provincial government, the prime minister directed officials concerned for early restoration of routine life in Karachi and ensuring uninterrupted communication and connectivity.

Keeping in view the intensity of disaster, as many as 15 Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers Sindh teams have been deployed to help the local administration in the unfortunate situation.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Air Force has also provided a C-130 aircraft and two helicopters to the Sindh government to deal with any emergency situation, state-run radio reported.

According to local media, at least 23 people had lost their lives mostly from electrocution as heavy rains wreaked havoc in the port city. According to the Met Department, rains which began Wednesday evening are expected to continue for three days in various parts of Sindh.
