Irshad Manji and Osama bin Laden

I just read an article on Irshad Manji and, though I agree with many of her points regarding our ummah being in a state of ignorance similar to the western world’s ignorance during the medieval period, I do not agree with her overly liberal stance.
Can one believe her advocacy of tolerance for lesbians and homosexuals is an acceptable direction for our religion? In my opinion, she is no different from Osama Bin Laden. Both seek to reform Islam in order to fulfill their inner desires. Osama seeks to repeal the rules of engagement for war laid out in the Qur’an and hadith in order to fulfill his desire of defeating the West by any means necessary.
Irshad, at the opposite extreme, seeks to make Islam a boundless theology similar to Hinduism which constantly mutates without consistency according to contemporary times.
I do think that Islam indeed leaves room for reform and not everything is etched in stone. However, there are many, many things, as you are well aware, that are laws to be fulfilled till the end of times.
Should we distort the message just to fit in? Did we forget that there were some prophets who had only one follower? Should we also forget that there were other prophets who had NO followers?
I think we should not seek alliances with decadent figures such as Irshad for the sake of conquering Islamaphobia. We should unite as true Muslims who, may have faults, but acknowledge the Qur’an’s divine words in entirety and I am 100% confident that if we reach out to the non-Muslim sectors of this country, Allah will Inshallah deliver us
