Wise Move

As a Pakistani-American I commend President General
Pervez Musharraf who in September 2005 publicly
took a bold initiative by addressing the Council
for World Jewry and American Jewish Congress at
New York. He has already proven a frontline progressive
Muslim leader in the global war against terrorism.
Muslims in general and Arabs in particular need
to accept the undeniable fact that Israel is a
realty. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle
East. It has done exceedingly well in the fields
of education, science, medicine, high technology,
and economy.
I have lived and traveled throughout the Middle
East, performed three Hajj and 30 Umrah. I know
the fact that the “Arabi and Ajmi”
thinking still exists in the Arab world. What
is more, Egyptian president Nasser, all Iraqi
presidents including Sadaam Hussain, PLO chairman
Yasser Arafat and others have mostly supported
India instead of Pakistan. Better late than never.
Pakistan should recognize the State of Israel
as Islamic Turkey has done.
Israel and Palestinians (in an independent state)
have the right to live side by side.
