Fake Degrees

By Col. Riaz Jafri(Retd)
Westridge-1, Rawalpindi

The returning officers have reportedly so far rejected 13 nomination papers on account of fake degrees presented by the aspirants. What is more surprising is that some of them were MNAs and MPAs in the previous assemblies and had gone undetected during the entire five-year term of the assemblies!
Their conscience never pricked them even for a day during all that period. Some nerves of steel and some performance? I think no one, not even the dumbest person, can be mistaken about one’s own qualifications, whether he/she had taken such and such exam or not and with what results. And, this coming from the legislators to be, who are to be entrusted by the nation for framing the laws for them to abide by, is not only highly unbecoming but outrageously cheating on their part.  They come to the Returning Officer’s office with great fanfare, profusely garlanded and supported by a multitude of admirers knowing in their heart of hearts fully well that they are about to commit a felony of fraud by presenting fake degree and yet do not feel any qualms about it!!
Only the rejection of their nomination papers is not good enough a punishment for them for committing such a pre-mediated morally debased crime, and instead such persons must be prosecuted under the law for fraud and forgery and sentenced to prison.

Viva le Democracy.
