Benazir is already behaving like a PM-designate.
Apart from her various other demands from the
government, her latest accusation was that the
DIG Police Larkana, SP and DSP Clifton Town Karachi
had not been replaced by the persons of her choice
– a typical requirement of our feudal MNAs
and MPAs who want to have the SHO, the Tehsildar
and the WAPDA lineman of their choice in their
area.

Wit and Wisdom
Wow, what a eulogy for the BB fully bedecked with
a Royal Qaseeda by the learned Dr. Farrukh Saleem
in his weekly column – Capital Suggestion
– “The News” 21st October. I
always thought the doctor was an academic intellectual.
Nay, he is the most worldly-wise intellectual
that we have. His praise for the rising Pheasant
from the ashes of her self-imposed exile could
not have been more opportune and in line with
the age-old practice of the sycophants ‘prostrating
before the rising sun’. May his efforts
not go in waste and may he be suitably rewarded
in times to come, Ameen.
However, Aib e ma’shooq nazar na mi
ayad (Beloved’s faults don’t
show up – the lover refuses to see the faults).
The learned doctor also refuses to see the blunder
made by BB in staging the rally just for the glorification
and satisfaction of her own ego which caused the
un-necessary deaths of 150 innocent bread winners
and maimed another 550 or so. If she were a true
leader, could she not anticipate the catastrophe
coming, particularly when she had received threats
to her life? No, Sir, she knew it very much and
that’s why elaborate arrangements for her
own personal security – Imam Zamins, benign
shadow of the Holy Qur’an, import of bullet-proof
cars, manufacture of the bullet proof luxurious
truck (which could not have been built in a day),
foreign security guards, electronic jammers to
render ineffective any remote controlled detonation
of explosives, police mobiles – were made
well in advance and in full anticipation of the
bomb attack(s). But what was done for the teeming
millions except turning them into a target of
a mile long procession on the dark roads of Karachi
moving at snail’s pace for hours on end
for any suicidal attacker to choose the time and
the place of the attack leisurely at his own discretion
and will? Even the most nincompoop of the nincompoops
would have anticipated the carnage and cancelled
the rally, but, she ensuring her own safety in
the bullet proof luxurious truck just threw to
the winds all caution and concern for the lives
of the creeping critters, whom she befools by
calling ‘mere awaam’!! The
heroic leader covered nine miles in ten long hours
but took ten minutes to cover 25 KM to Bilawal
House! What a performance at staging the retreat
by a leader? It was simply murderous to take out
the rally under such circumstances and if she
had any love – forget the love – concern
for the poor should have never allowed it. But
who cares as long as there are doctors to eulogise
her getting her men killed in vain – nay
– for her narcissus glory.
As expected the PPP is shedding crocodile tears
on the loss of life, have declared three days
mourning, are holding press conferences sympathising
with the families of the dead and finger pointing
at others, even calling on some to offer fateha,
etc. etc. A sort of devilishly clever ‘damage
control’ to shift the blame on to others
and totally absolve themselves of all blame scot-free.
May I, therefore, request the CJP to take suo
moto notice of the Karachi carnage, which
could have been avoided had BB and PPP walas not
taken out such a vulnerable procession fraught
with grave dangers?
