Lessons from the Brutal Sialkot Murders
By Dr Ghayur Ayub

The brutal murder of two alleged thieves on the street of Sialkot in broad daylight is a stark reminder to dacoits who have stolen public money from the national exchequer. It was a rehearsal of a big fixture when the furious public with sticks, daggers, and guns in their hands attacked them on the streets, in their private homes and in the official residences. Nature has opened up the Pandora Box waiting for the boiling sentiments to burst if the corrupt government fails to sooth their pains and lessen their agonizing flood-induced loads.

The scenes bring shivers. Let us pray the society doesn’t touch that extreme and the government working with skilful maneuvering wins the hearts and minds of the desperate and needy public. It is a tall order but the choices are limited and time is short.
