Loss of a Great Intellectual Asset
By Dr A. Khan

With the sad demise of Mr Ardeshir Cowasjee, Pakistan has lost a great intellectual asset.
Indeed, Mr Coswasjee was a scholar and a gentleman. He belonged to an elite group of innovative thinkers and leaders like Altaf Hussain, Ahmad Ali Khan, Eqbal Ahmed and others, who made DAWN a beacon of journalism.
Mr Cowasjee was a true champion of citizenry. His weekly columns were a mirror of society at large; through the power of the word he fought eloquent duels to protect the rights of the common man.

His mannerism and etiquettes also speak volumes about his character; he avidly replied to a large number of e-mail messages he used to receive from his readers; he would often advise them to speak out against  injustice. “Write to the papers, air your views,” he would write.

Indisputably, Mr Cowesjee was the moral compass of society.
May God bless his soul. (Amen)
