What Needs to Be Done after the Supreme Court Decision?

It is said that power corrupts, but actually it's truer that power attracts the corruptible. The sane and the fair are usually attracted by truth.

The Supreme Court, in its short order, ruled that there was ample evidence to suggest that the 1990 election was rigged and that a political cell maintained by the then president Ghulam Ishaq Khan supported the formation of the IJI to obstruct the victory of the PPP. The ruling said that Ghulam Ishaq Khan, General Baig and General Durrani violated the Constitution. President Ishaq is dead but one expects that the law will take its due course against the two offenders.

But what about the politicians who were bribed by the Inter-Services Intelligence and received Rs 140 million to create the Islamic Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) and stop the PPP from coming to power?

We want action to be taken against them too. They’re just as guilty as the two generals and the late President. One of the main beneficiaries of this episode was Nawaz Sharif - he became the prime minister of Pakistan by virtues of this manipulative arrangement . I humbly request the Chief Justice to investigate all decisions made by the Nawaz government during its 1990 tenure .

Need I remind the readers that it was in 1990 that the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif passed a resolution in the assembly to launch a military operation in Karachi to target 72 'big fishes'. ‘Operation Clean-up’ was described as the government's attempt to end terrorism in Karachi and to seize unauthorized arms. The operation, which ostensibly sought to eliminate all terrorists irrespective of their political affiliation, began in June 1992. But the MQM became the target of the operation. Resultantly, political violence erupted as the MQM organized protests and strikes.

The period is regarded as the bloodiest in Karachi's history with thousands killed or reported missing. Although 18 years have

passed, families of the missing are hopeful after registering cases in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif should be impeached for launching the illegal operation and for misguiding the Army for his personal and political motives.

I humbly request the Chief Election Commissioner to disqualify all political leaders who accepted 140 million to create the Islamic Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI). The Supreme Court should issue a summon for the former IJI leaders.
