Buddha: Attaining Enlightenment
By Khalid Salam

Such an interesting, enjoyable, enlightening read, that after reading it, I had to read it again to take it all in. Well written it bought new facts for me, for instance, the Buddha was born in Nepal, not India._Kapilavusta. Buddhism had appealed to me because of the calm, tranquil aura that it exudes, especially as regards their rituals, in particular, the head shaven monks walking in their orangish robes in Indian style. Also for me they seem to be somewhat similar to Abrahamic faiths as their belief in only one Higher Being. The only time this peaceful image got tarnished in my view was the treatment of the Rohingyas in Myanmar. But I hope this is a one off instance.

Whilst subscribing to most of the opinions expressed the ones that particularly resonated with me was the need for peace between neighbors, especially India and Pakistan and the sacrificial of animals but here we are treading on very sensitive ground. The need for peace, tolerance, understanding, compassion permeates the article which is so direly needed in our strife-torn world. May Dr Amineh Hoti continue to enthrall us with her writings.
