November 2006

Congratulations to American Muslims
Your 1 Vote made a difference

Democracy won. What a difference a day can make. Until only a day before the Nov 7th Mid-term elections I had given up hope on the American democracy. It has been moving away being a government of the people, for the people, by the people. Instead it was becoming a government controlled and run by interest groups and lobbies. We are constantly reminded by daily incidents that America’s constitution and citizen’s rights do not apply to American Muslim citizens. This must change. Only your vote and your supporting actions can start the change.
A high percentage of American Muslims voted even though it was a mid-term election. It was not a vote against one political party and endorsement of another. It was a voice of the people who make this country great. America will remain the world’s best “Model of Democracy” as long as it encourages and respects all its citizens. America will continue to be great as long as the best citizens of the world constantly come here as immigrants.
Let this be the beginning of the American Muslim political activism and way to become part of the system. The community has been quiet and shy and paying a heavy penalty after 9/11. Exercise the power of your vote in maximum numbers every 2 years. Support and interact with your lawmakers like the local councilman, your US Senator, your member of the Congress. Let them all know how you feel. Make them start recognizing you by your face. Support them financially.
We have a political activism liaison office in Washington DC set up to support and guide you. It is right next door to The Heritage Foundation. It is called PAL-C (www.PAL-C.org). We have the 74 member Congressional Pakistan Caucus (list on PAL-C website) in the US Congress. Encourage your Congressman or Congresswoman to join this Caucus.
We will be heard. Inshallah

PAL-C's commitment to building awareness and educating Members of Congress on issues important to Pakistani Americans have made it a reputable and recognized name on Capitol Hill with an office right next door to the Heritage Foundation. Without the continued support of the community to such an important cause, PAL-C will not be able to reach its ultimate potential – a loss that will affect each and every Pakistani American today and in the future.
