Mehfil: Newest
Sensation in Pakistani Food
By Zeeshan Subzwari
Welcome to Mehfil, the newest sensation
in Pakistani food in the LA metro! Mehfil Restaurant
specializes in catering delicious Pakistani Tandoori
cuisine and opened in June 2006 on Pioneer Blvd.
Chef Tahirbhai, the ex-chef of Shahnawaz in Lakewood
started this restaurant under the auspices of Manager
Joseph Clement. Chef Tahirbhai brings many years
of experience and commitment to quality to the table
at Mehfil. The restaurant is located in the Pink
Plaza adjacent to the plaza where Habib Bank of
America is located.
Mehfil has had a tremendous amount of success within
a few months since its inception. The restaurant’s
volume of business and huge success is the reason
it is open seven days a week, always available to
offer delicious, satiating food to its customers.
Mehfil is one of the few restaurants in town to
offer a true, authentic Pakistani style breakfast.
For breakfast, this restaurant offers the traditional,
greatly-loved favorite Halwa-Puri or Cholay. Then,
there is also the traditional American Omelet or
spicy Nihari with the choice of tea, coffee, or
fresh juice as beverage. Best of all, the scrumptious
breakfast menu is very affordable, starting at $1.99.
Special weekend breakfast menu lists Halwa Puri
Cholay for $2.99, and Paratha with Nihari or Paya
for $3.99.
What really brings the working crowd in this Pioneer
plaza restaurant is the lunch buffet which offers
fresh, delicious, hot food daily and at an inexpensive
price. With a large variety of menu offerings, salads
and garnishing, and dessert to end a great meal,
everyone is sure to leave with a satisfied appetite.
The menu’s entrée offerings include:
Murch Ka Salan, Bagare Bhaigan, Khatti dal, Biryani,
Nihari, Haleem, and Shahi Qorma. The special daily
to-go menu is also at a very affordable price of
$5 / each order and consists of Chicken or Behari
kabab rolls, Chicken Biryani, or Haleem. Finally,
served on simmering skillets garnished with cilantro
and onions, the tandoori-BBQ offerings are always
in high demand with savory items such as Bihari
Qabab, Chicken Reshmi, and Seekh Kababs. The tasty
Mughlai and Hyderabi recipes utilized at Mehfil
were passed on to Chef Tahirbhai from his mother
who taught him how to cook. Although Chef Tahibhai
uses his own original recipes, he also brings his
unique innovations and style to the table, which
adds to the flavor.
Once customers step into Mehfil, they are sure to
be mesmerized with the aroma of the food and the
taste of Mehfil’s offerings. After they leave,
they are sure to continue raving about the “Mehfil
experience.” Word-of mouth of frequenting
customers has alone helped Mehfil attract more customers
and has also lead to increasing catering orders.
“We can conveniently cater for catering orders
anywhere between 50 to 2,000 people,” says
Chef Tahirbhai. At the restaurant, the volume of
business is increasing exponentially and Tahir bhai
says they are already facing a space crunch. Plans
are set to expand in order to make room for customers
and also open a banquet hall facility to host large
parties for events.
Mehfil is located at 18189 Pioneer Blvd., Artesia.
