'Kyun Nikala' Theatre Play to Be Released on Eve of Independence Day

Renowned playwright Anwar Maqsood’s piece Kyun Nikala, resembling the oft-quoted electioneering slogan, is set for release on the eve of Independence Day.
The play will be screened at the Arts Council, Karachi on August 13.
Addressing a news conference at the Arts Council, Maqsood said he had written the play ‘Kyun Nikala’ (why was I ousted) a long time before it became a political slogan. He further said he has entered into an agreement with the Director Dawar Mehmood that none of his words will be omitted from the play.
Shedding some light on the play, Maqsood said it related to a cook providing his services to a PML-N leader for the last 30 years.
The playwright further said that the entire piece will encompass the upcoming general elections, featuring all political parties. He hoped that no political party will object to the artistic play.
He quipped that July 25, the scheduled for the polls, will ‘free the masses’ and urged the voters to exercise their right carefully as a major ‘bidding’ of candidates occurs during the polls.
President Arts Council, Director Dawar Mehmood and a large number of media persons were present on the occasion.
‘Mujhey kyun nikala’ became a popular refrain after the deposed premier Nawaz Sharif used it as a political slogan at his public rallies to garner public support against his disqualification by the top court on July 28, 2017, in the Panama Papers case.

Commenting on the July 6 verdict in the Avensfield case, PTI leader Jahangir Tareen said the verdict shreds Nawaz’s ‘Mujhe Kyun Nikala’ narrative to pieces.
The ousted prime minister had been saying that he was disqualified for no reason. Now Sharif should know that he has been ousted for being a “thief and money launderer”, Tareen said.
Another PTI leader Dr Arif Alvi called it a “historic victory for the people of Pakistan which should serve as a warning to all those who looted and plundered the nation’s money”.
Other PTI leaders Asad Umar and Babar Awan welcomed the decision as “victory for the people of Pakistan” and “jail for Nawaz”.
Babar Awan, however, said Sharif has inflicted huge losses on the national kitty, so the fine should have been heavier and the jail term longer.
On its official Twitter handle, the PTI said Nawaz would now go to Adiyala Jail.
Some PPP politicians said the PML-N was reaping what the Sharifs had sowed years ago.
