Ramdan Mubarak! We are in the first Ashra of Ramadan. Time passes fleetingly andsoon the holy month would pass. So making the best use of time during the holy month should be our focus this Ramdan. Make sure you have a goal set for this blessed month. It could be achieved only if you stay focused.
In order to change someone’s life we do not need to invest thousands and millions. A simple investment of few hundreds can suffice through well-meaning initiatives and enterprise. For instance, a couple of goats could bring immense financial stability to a family struggling to survive, particularly a widow who is tasked with the responsibility of raising a family in remote and rural areas of developing countries.
This investment has done wonders for thousands of families in different parts of the world. The families have pulled themselves out of the poverty cycle and the donation of goats has produced wholesome results.
In most cases such help has proved a worthy lifetime investment and has enabledthe needy families to have proper food, education for the children, and shelter as well as access to basic needs. In most cases people in rural areas possess basic skills of rearing goats which means they can easily sustain this program themselvesonce it has been launched.
The way it works is simple: initially four female goats and a male goat are given to a widow in the community. She is made responsible for taking care of the goats. This is often a loan and to pay back each time the goats give birth, the male offspring is given to another community member. This applies on each and every community member which gives opportunity to others to benefit from the program. They not only get milk, butter, and cheese but in some cases they can also sell goats once their herd has increased in number.
A good quality goat would normally cost $300 in a developing country such as Pakistan; elsewhere the cost could vary. The goat will not only provide milk and other dairy products to the widow in need, butalso be a sustainable source of income to live with dignity and respect.
There are a number of organizations locally, internationally and in every developing countryconfronted with extreme poverty that are running such projects at different scales.
It is important that we show people the way to improve their lot on their own. They are sure to take the initiative and make sincere striving once we help them with a nominal investment.
