Obituary

Professor Nisar Ahmad Farouqi, a well known poet, writer, critic and a scholar of international fame in Arabic, Persian and Urdu, died of cancer in Delhi on Sunday the November 28 at the age of 72. He was former Professor and Head of the Department of Arabic, Delhi University. He has authored several books and scores of learned articles. He was recipient of numerous awards.

Mr. Hasan Chishti, General Secretary, Jahan-e-Urdu Foundation of USA in a statement said, “I had the good fortune of working under his able guidance in compiling four of my books which have recently been published under his supervision. A man of great vision Prof. Farouqi was my guide and mentor. May his soul rest in peace.”
