Dr Warsi Honored

J Warsi, a linguist from Patna and a researcher who teaches
in the South Asian Studies Department of the University of
California, Berkeley, was recently recognized by the
Chancellor, Robert J Birgeneau, as one of the 200, among the
4000 nominations, “Unsung Heroes” of UC Berkeley.
A gold medallist from the Aligarh Muslim University and a
West Bengal Urdu Academy award holder, he has also authored
two books, Diploma in Computer Application and Multilingual
DTP and Language and Communication (the only book concerning
linguistics study on Urdu electronic and print media) helping
understand the efficacy of the common contact in languages.
Dr. Warsi has not confined himself to academia but has been
very actively involved with the campus community. Dr. Warsi’s
journey has been a long and tumultuous one, a saga marked
by obstacles, dedication, and tremendous courage in the face
of great adversities.
Dr Warsi may have journeyed a long way from being a little
school boy in Patna Bihar to the current position of Indo-Aryan
languages and linguistics professor at UC Berkeley, he, however
has never faltered in conscience and practice in his duties
to family and community.
