Honored: Forty Years of
Service
Dr.
Ghulam M. Haniff, Professor of Political Science, St. Cloud
State University, St. Cloud, MN was recently honored at an
awards ceremony in recognition of forty years of service to
his university and the State of Minnesota.
The award, given during the convocation week at which Provost
Dr. Michael Spitzer officiated, was presented by Dr. Ray Saigo,
the President. The honoring of the long time professor was
accompanied by standing ovation in a crowded, standing room
only hall.
Dr. Haniff is believed to be the first and only Muslim with
four decades of service to his institution and the state in
Minnesota.
During his long career Dr. Haniff worked on a variety of causes
and served on numerous important committees. He was president
of St. Cloud State University Faculty Association, chair of
the Faculty Senate and negotiator for the faculty union.
His academic tenure included activism besides research and
writing papers. In the larger community he forcefully advocated
Muslim involvement in American politics and civic affairs.
Dr. Haniff has been associated with MSA, ISNA, AMSS and the
Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy since their founding.
He continues to be active in several state and national organizations.
