Pakistani Elected President
of UNCA

Nations: Masood Haider, a senior Pakistani journalist, has
been elected president of the United Nations Correspondents
Association (UNCA) for the year 2006.
Mr. Haider, who represents Pakistan's most respected English
daily newspaper Dawn at the UN Headquarters in New York, was
not challenged in the annual elections.
He is the third Pakistani journalist to head the prestigious
175-member Association since its establishment in 1946. The
United Nations journalists' association was formed to promote
and defend the professional interests of its members.
A 10-member executive committee was also elected.
Mr. Haider worked for the Eastern News Agency, Morning News
and The Muslim before joining Dawn in 1993. He was accredited
to the UN in 1990.
Masood Haider, a Pakistani-American is a resident of Westchester,
New York and contributes regularly to other news journals
also including despardes.com. He is a keen South Asia political
observer and writes Op-Ed articles also.
