South Asian Bridal Show
2005

Irvine: The long anticipated
South Asian Bridal show was held at the Irvine Hyatt on the
9th of January that drew large crowds of people from all over
South Asia. This show was arranged by Ravissant and Unique
Elegance of Artesia, California. The show had everything you
need to plan a wedding or engagement under one roof. The vendors
consisted of caterers, jewelers, bridal boutiques, photographers,
DJ’s, wedding planners, beauty salons and henna artists.
For instance the Empire Trading, Inc. CA served samples of
their kulfis that came in a variety of delicious flavors including
pistachio, mango and malai. The creamy kulfis reminded me
of the kulfis served in traditional weddings back in Pakistan.
The highlight of the
event was the fashion show that displayed the latest bridal
fashions for men and women from the subcontinent, along with
magnificent matching jewelry. The beautiful glittery lenghas,
saris, shararas and shalwar kameezes were from Miss Vogue
and Ravissant and had the crowd applauding and screaming with
elation.
The show was at the grand ballroom big enough to accommodate
the large crowd that came despite the heavy rain. The show
was from 11 to 5 and ended nicely when Dhamaka Productions
showed off their talent by playing the traditional “dhol”
on stage.
Whether you are engaged, married or even just looking it was
a great event to find out the newest trends in Desi bridal
fashion and bring together people from all over South Asia
to appreciate what our rich cultures have to offer.
