Bhutto’s 77th Birthday
Celebrated in California

Ali Bhutto’s 77th birthday was celebrated by the leaders
and workers of Pakistan Peoples Party, West Coast Branch
USA, in Corona on January 16. The event organized by Mr.
Farhan Shafiq, was celebrated at the newly opened office
of the party. Speaking on the occasion chief guest Mr. Rashid
Ghaznavi, Vice President Pakistan Peoples Party USA, highlighted
the services and sacrifices of Mr. Bhutto in the service
of Pakistan and its masses. If Pakistan is a proud nuclear
power today it is because of the vision of Zulfiqar Ali
Bhutto.
He gave the first unanimously adopted constitution of to
the country which, despite violations of its sanctity, continues
to hold the country together and provides the basic law
of the land. Mr. Sani Panhwar of the Sindh Association of
North America (SANA) and a prominent local PPP leader stressed
the need for restoration of real democracy as envisioned
under the supreme law of the land. He called for representation
of all political forces in the democratic process, return
of all political leaders to Pakistan without fear of persecution,
and restoration of provincial autonomy according to the
Constitution 0f 1973.
Other speakers recalled the services of late ZA Bhutto who
stood for the rights of the dispossessed, organized the
2nd Islamic Summit, endeavored to unite the Third World
leadership, and built an impregnable defense of Pakistan
by starting its nuclear program despite all opposition.
Speakers also called for the restoration of the 1973 Constitution
in its original form to guarantee the supremacy of the parliament
and the rule of law. The celebrations started with Tilawat-e-Qur’an-e-Paak,
followed by tributes to the founding father of the Peoples
Party. Prominent among the speakers were: Mr. Adnan Shafiq,
Mr. Rashid Ghaznavi, Mr. Farhan Shafiq, Mr. Nazir Bhurgri,
Mr. Sohail Parekh, Mr. Taufiq Shah, Mr. Rehan Shafiq, Mr.
Khalid Fareed, Dr. Khalid Memon, and Mr. Farooq.
