Jackson Lee Lauds House
India-Pakistan Peace Resolution
Washington,
DC: Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, founding co-chair of
the Congressional Pakistan Caucus and a member of the Congressional
Caucus on India and Indian-Americans has commended the House
International Relations Committee for passing H. Res. 272
the India-Pakistan Peace Resolution. Congresswoman Jackson
Lee is the lead sponsor of the India-Pakistan Peace Resolution,
which congratulates India and Pakistan on taking monumental
steps toward achieving a comprehensive peace agreement.
The International Relations Committee passed the resolution
by unanimous consent during a morning Committee Markup. "I
want to thank the Members of the House International Relations
Committee, especially Chairman Hyde and Ranking Member Lantos
for supporting this effort to recognize the ongoing peace
process between India and Pakistan. The steps taken by Prime
Minister Singh and President Musharraf are indeed monumental
in the history between these two great nations. Both leaders
recognize that peace cannot be achieved in a day, but by building
social and political ties to each other, a final peace cannot
be deterred," said Congresswoman Jackson Lee.
The India-Pakistan Peace Resolution has received broad bipartisan
support in Congress and is a truly balanced resolution that
acknowledges the admirable efforts both India and Pakistan
have made recently.
