Pakistani Wins World
Prize
Phoenix, Arizona: An American student
of Pakistani parents, Ameen Abdulrasool of Chicago, is one
of the three grand prize winners at an international science
and engineering fair here. His project, “Prototype
for Autonomy: Pathway for the Blind”, got him a scholarship
worth $50,000 plus a trip to attend the Stockholm International
Youth Science Seminar during the Noble Prize distribution
ceremonies later this year.
Eighteen-year-old Abdulrasool spent three years on this
project before winning in the qualifying round in Illinois
and came to Phoenix with his project for the fair. His father,
who came to the US from Islamabad, is visually impaired
and it was this tragedy in the family that motivated him
to work on this project.
