AMA Invites Entries
to its 2005 Youth Essay Contest
Newark, CA: The American
Muslim Alliance (AMA) Youth Think Tank invites entries to
its 2005 Youth Essay Contest. The theme of the contest is:
“American Muslim community, its challenges, opportunities,
rights and responsibilities in the United States”.
This contest aims at promoting awareness of public affairs
in the Muslim youth and developing their communication skills.
The contest is open to all junior high, high school and
college level Muslim students as detailed below. Home school
student are encouraged to participate. The essay must be
an original work of the contestant and must be focused on
American Muslims. Topics may include any and all –
social, cultural, moral, religious, political, economic,
intellectual, organizational, and demographic - aspects
of Muslim life in America.
Entries will be judged for knowledge of the subject theme,
theoretical sophistication of analysis, solution-oriented
approach, evidence of a serious research effort, and clarity
of presentation.
Two winners will be chosen in each of the following categories:
Junior High Students, High School Students and University
or College Undergraduate Students. The format of submitted
essays for each category should follow these guidelines:
Junior High: 700-800 words, High School: 850-1000 words,
and College Students: 1250-1400 words
Each contestant may submit only one essay and each essay
will be reviewed only in one category in accordance with
the student’s stated academic standing. However, students
are free to submit their entries in a higher category if
they wish.
Entries must include: full name; mailing address; telephone
number including the area code; email; academic standing
as well as name and address of the educational institution
where currently enrolled.
Essays must be received in the AMA Youth Think Tank office
by 5:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2005. Results of the
contest will be announced via e-mail and AMA website (www.amaweb.org)
on Jan 2, 2006.
Essays can be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail. Essays can
be mailed to: AMA Youth Think Tank, 39675 Cedar Blvd, Suite
220-E, Newark, CA. 94560. Alternately they may be faxed

The contest awards will be: Junior High School - First prize
- $100, Second prize - $75; High School - First prize -
$150, Second prize - $125; and University and College Undergraduate
Students - First prize - $200, Second prize - $150. All
winners will receive printed certificates which can be received,
at contestant’s discretion, in person at the next
AMA Youth Think Tank meeting after the awards are announced
or by mail. Winning essays will be posted on several AMA
websites. Submission of an essay in this contest constitutes
a permission to publish it, if judged as a publishable essay.
