Chicago Muslims Pray
for Quake Victims
Chicago: In the wake of Saturday’s
7.6 magnitude earthquake centered in Pakistan-administered
Kashmir, the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater
Chicago has issued an urgent appeal for K-9 search and rescue
teams and disaster recovery experts to extricate survivors
from collapsed buildings and landslides. More than 30,000
people are dead from the major earthquake. More importantly,
tens of thousands of lives can still be saved if search
and rescue teams and helicopters are urgently sent.
Several villages in Pakistan’s northwest and in Kashmir
were wiped off the map, many structures were damaged or
destroyed while hospitals overflowed with patients. “During
this blessed month of Ramadan, we pray that people of faith
and goodwill will assist people in Pakistan,” said
Abdul Malik Mujahid, Chair of the Council of Islamic Organizations
of Greater Chicago.
