Shura Council Expresses
Concern at Rising Hate Crimes
Anaheim, Sep 13, 2005: The Islamic
Shura Council has called upon the civic, political and law
enforcement leadership of Southern California to note the
rise in bigotry and hatred toward Muslims and Islam in Southern
California. In June, a mosque in the city of Adelanto was
burnt down. In July, a mosque in Pomona was vandalized and
on August 19, the mosque in Redlands was vandalized.
A Shura Press Release says: “As an umbrella organization
of over seventy mosques and Muslim organizations, the Shura
Council is increasingly concerned for the safety of people
and places of worship. It recognizes that not all people are
hateful and espouse bigotry but those who do must be held
accountable to the fullest extent of law.
“The Shura Council shall continue to monitor this new
ugly trend and is determined to work in retaining the distinctly
rich diverse culture of Southern California.
“The Shura Council calls upon the civic, political and
law enforcement leadership to take note of these incidents
and ensure the safety of people and places of worship.”
