Shahid
Khan with John Kerry |
Washington, DC: US senator and
former Democratic party presidential candidate John Kerry
is to visit Pakistan and the earthquake-devastated areas of
Azad Kashmir this month.
During his weeklong trip to the region, he will also visit
India, Afghanistan and Iraq. His stay in Pakistan is expected
to last two days, where he will be accompanied by Shahid Ahmad
Khan, a Boston-based Pakistani who played an active role in
the senator’s presidential election campaign.
Kerry is expected to call on President Pervez Musharraf and
people from a cross-section of Pakistani society, including
politicians representing opposition parties.
Kerry is planning to be in Pakistan on January 14-15 and will
visit Lahore, Islamabad and the quake affected areas.
Meanwhile, former president George Bush Senior, who was recently
appointed special envoy to the UN secretary general, is also
planning to visit Pakistan and Kashmir sometime early this
year.
