Congressman Bill Pascrell,
Jr. Joins the Congressional Pakistan Caucus
Bill
Pascrell, Jr. has joined the Congressional Pakistan Caucus
as its 74th member.
Congressman Pascrell stated that
he is “proud to join the Congressional Pakistan Caucus
due to the vibrant Pakistani-American community and the strong
relationship the United States enjoys with Pakistan. The Eighth
Congressional District of New Jersey is blessed to be one
of our nation's most diverse districts and includes a large
Pakistani-American community, with whom I have always enjoyed
a strong relationship. In my many years of public service
as a Mayor, State Assemblyman and currently as a Member of
Congress I have always placed a premium on the issue of civil
liberties, which I know is a top priority for Pakistani-Americans.
As a member of the Homeland Security Committee I am also appreciative
of Pakistan's efforts after September 11th in fighting the
War on Terror as our ally."
The Pakistani American Leadership Center (PAL-C) welcomes
Congressman Pascrell to the Congressional Pakistan Caucus
and is honored to work with him in the future on building
awareness on Capitol Hill about Pakistani American concerns.
Mossadaq Chughtai, the Chair of the Fundraising Committee
recently met with the Congressman and his Chief of Staff,
Ben Rich, to discuss Caucus membership. Mr. Chughtai remarked,
“We are proud to have someone who has taken such a strong
stance on civil rights and nonproliferation issues on our
Caucus.”
Congressman Pascrell is a Regional Whip within the Democratic
Caucus leadership team, where he helps to frame the Democratic
Caucus’ policy agenda in the House of Representatives.
He was also approached by House leadership in 2002 to fill
a vital post on the new House Committee on Homeland Security.
In 2005, Congressman Pascrell was named Ranking Member on
the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Science and Technology.
