Forum for Pakistani
American Youth
Mauqa, a student networking organization,
has been launched to “accelerate diversification of
professions that Pakistani-American youth feel they have
the ability to thrive in.” A message received on behalf
of Mauqa states:
The Pakistani-American community of the Silicon Valley and
Greater Bay Area has done a remarkable job of establishing
itself in the region by initially entering important technical
fields, such as medicine and engineering. Gaining respect
and influence through these professions has made a strong
positive impact on the broader community. In recent years,
Pakistani-Americans have begun expanding their presence
into other fields, including management consulting, law,
entrepreneurship, financial services, and media. We believe
that by developing a network through which young people
can benefit from the insights of more experienced professionals
in these fields, we can accelerate diversification of professions
that Pakistani-American youth feel they have the ability
to thrive in.
This network is called MAUQA.
By utilizing this conduit, the community moves beyond the
current informal mentoring that occurs and brings together
people that were unknown to each other. This not only broadens
the scope of resources and influencers, but also allows
Pakistani-Americans to establish further integration with
the broader American society by entry into professions in
which we are currently under-represented.
Mauqa’s ultimate aim is to connect each mentee with
a mentor from a field of interest, who will help in the
following:
• Exposing the student to the business world
• Broaden the mentee’s perspective and understanding
of their chosen field
• Offer advice on interviewing, networking, job search,
and resume writing
• Providing guidance on career development issues
Please volunteer to become a mentor today. Send your resume
to mauqa.mentors@gmail.com
