The Tustin Youth Cricket
organization which was started by Abid Hussain in September,
2005 celebrated its first year in Tustin last week at the
Tustin Tiller Days Community Fair. Hussain is a former wicket-keeper
and open batsman of the US National Team. He is also ICC
certified coach. and umpire.
For the Tustin Youth Cricket organization the past year
has been a year of many accomplishments, culminating in
the team’s participation in the first US National
Cricket Tournament held in Santa Clara past summer.
The Tustin Youth Cricket was created with the support of
the City of Tustin and the Tustin Parks and Recreation Department.
The Tustin Youth Cricket Team marched in the Tiller Days
Fair parade on Saturday morning, and throughout the weekend
they managed a booth at the Fair grounds. The booth was
provided by the Parks and Recreation Department and allowed
interested visitors to the fair to stop and speak directly
to the cricket coaches. The booth also provided visitors
the opportunity to register for fall classes in cricket
for both children and teenagers. Classes began on Oct 4
and will continue till Dec 2.
Both boys and girls teams are planned. Call Parks and Recreation
(714) 573-3326 for further details.
Cricket has just made its debut in the US. The City of Tustin
has availed of the historic opportunity to provide services
and facilities to the Tustin Youth Cricket Team to encourage
local participation and inform the residents of the history
of this worldwide sport.
