Aga Shahi Remembered
by Colleagues in Washington
By Khalid Hasan
Washington, DC: Veteran
Pakistani diplomat Aga Shahi was mourned and remembered
on Friday at a meeting held at the Permanent Mission of
Pakistan in New York.
Munir Akram, who now holds the post that Shahi held through
a crucial and turbulent period in Pakistan’s history,
said that Shahi was one of the most distinguished and successful
diplomats produced by Pakistan. “He was a great Pakistani,
who dedicated himself to the country and the profession,”
he said. His death, he added, has left a vacuum that will
not be filled for a long time.
Shaihi worked ceaselessly all his life, setting standards
of excellence for his colleagues, Akram said. He recalled,
that till his last days, Shahi was serving on the United
Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination,
one of his passions.
The meeting was attended by officers and staff members of
the Mission and the Consulate General as well as Pakistanis
serving at the United Nations.
