City, CA: The Sixth Annual Convention of the Federation
of Aligarh Alumni Associations (FAAA) will be held in Cleveland,
Ohio on July 28-29, 2007. The convention seeks to bring
together a diverse cross-section of AMU Alumni, various
alumni associations and well-wishers of AMU to discuss issues
related to educational, literary and social needs of the
community.
The theme of the 2007 convention is “Aligarh &
Beyond – Educational Opportunities for Minorities
in India” and will be addressed by eminent personalities
including Mr. Ram Jethmalani (Member Rajya Sabha, Senior
Advocate Supreme Court of India and Former Law Minister)
who will also be the chief guest on this occasion.
The program will include a series of highly focused sessions
on educational and community building projects. The convention
will provide a forum for AMU Alumni and well-wishers to
get first hand information on the progress of on-going projects
and participate in discussions to prioritize future projects.
“To enhance youth participation, FAAA has established
two annual merit awards for the best high school graduates.
The Sir Ziauddin Ahmed and Shaikh Abdullah (Papa Mian) Awards
will be presented at the convention. Students graduating
from high school in 2007 are invited to apply for these
awards. In addition, Zafar Iqbal Award for excellence in
sports has also been instituted by the Federation to encourage
the youth to excel in sports as well as in academics. Award
guidelines and application forms are available online at
the Federation's website http://www.aligs.org. The deadline
for receipt of applications is July 10, 2007.
