SAN to Portray Violence
against Women
In an effort to begin a dialogue
on violence against women and girl children in the South
Asian community, South Asian Network’s Awaz –
Voices Against Violence Unit is producing Yoni Ki Baat.
This will be a groundbreaking play that will highlight the
voices of women and girls in Southern California through
a play and subsequently open dialogue with the community
members in attendance. A SAN press release says:
We have worked on domestic violence, child abuse including
child sexual abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking, sexual
harassment in the workplace for the past 5 years with over
800 women and children, etc. However, the silence and taboo
around these issues has not allowed us to create a safe
space for victim’s to come forward to seek services
and hold their abusers accountable. Often times when women
come forward they are blamed for brining negative attention
to their community or told that they are responsible for
breaking up the family.
We want to create a community that allows for all our voices
to be heard.
