Shakeel Syed Honored

Anaheim, CA: Shakeel Syed, Executive Director of Islamic Shura Council, was among those honored May 22 at the fourth annual "Giants of Justice" luncheon sponsored by Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE.)
CLUE recognizes religious and community leaders whose responses to the crisis of poverty make them "Giants of Justice."
Other honorees include Bishop John Bryant of the African Methodist Episcopal Church; Rabbi Robert Gan of Temple Isaiah; the Joan Harper, program consultant for the Office of Justice and Peace in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles; and The Rev Canon Richard Gillett, social justice minister for the Diocese of Los Angeles.
Syed has been at the forefront in redressing the wage disparities for hotel workers in the LAX Corridor and has also been campaigning for comprehensive immigration reform for hard-working undocumented immigrants.
Syed and others will reflect upon how they have opened the doors for justice in their communities and will share insights that will help and inspire future generations of leaders.
Syed was also recognized last week as a Community Leader by the Orange County Human Relations for his community-building work.
