APPNA Arizona Chapter
Organizes Program
The Arizona Chapter of APPNA organized
an evening of lectures, dinner and musical program on Saturday,
May 12 2007.
A large number of community members in the Phoenix metropolitan
area attended this event held at the Fiesta Inn resort in
Tempe Arizona .
Dr Scott Leischow, Professor, University of Arizona, made
a presentation on “Tobacco Dependence: More than a
Habit.” He furnished an in-depth analysis on the causes
of nicotine addiction, discussed cures that are currently
available, and presented data on various studies to overcome
nicotine addiction.
Eric Erfan Vickers, keynote speaker, gave an enlightening
talk on “Civil Rights and American Muslims: Issues
and Solutions”. Among the minorities US Muslims are
the most educated and possess good family values. He emphasized
the need to reach out to other communities, make alliances
with similar organizations and educate the community at
large about Islam.
Singing popular songs Dr Taqi Azam from Tucson entertained
the audience.
Dr. Mujeeb Shad, the guest artist, who flew from Dallas
to participate in the event, sang light songs, geet and
ghazals sung by well-known artists of the sub-continent.
Tabla player, Manesh Judge, who had come from San Francisco,
won the hearts of the audience with his skillful performance
and artistic talent.
Dr. Nadeem Kazi, president of APPNA thanked Asim Khawaja,
the local APPNA president and his team, for working hard
and making the event a success. He gave an overview of the
overall activities of APPNA especially its role in promoting
education and community outreach programs.
