The
local Pakistani Business and Pakistani-American Associations
jointly held a large Eid Milan gathering at the Hagan Community
Park in Rancho Cordova, California on Sunday, October 21.
At this bring-one-dish all-day event, amidst kids games, quiz,
food eating competitions (it was shortly after Ramadan after
all), several area boys and girls won prizes for their mental
and physical abilities.
Pakistan Link took the opportunity to participate in this
event too. We talked to Nadim (Khalifa), one of the organizers,
who shared with us the concern for rain and last minute cancellation
plans in case that it did decide to pour. But the weather
turned out to be perfect for this colorful Eid festival as
Sohail Shehzad and Naeem Syed amongst others conducted the
kids activities to everyone’s delight.
The Pakistani-American community in the San Joaquin Valley/Sacramento
numbers in thousands. According to the organizers, this event
will be bigger and better next year, because the response
from community kids was nothing short of spectacular. It was
great to see the proud parents looking on as our well-behaved
next generation makes its mark on the local scene. Who knows
how many doctors, lawyers and engineers along with teachers
and journalists and not to forget successful business owners
will emerge from this group in future.
Let us collectively focus on our kids and encourage such kids-related
activity so that they remember to carry on this tradition
in future.
We are glad that our people could enjoy days such as this
one, celebrating our rich and wonderful culture with our families.
This Eid Picnic turned out to be a huge success due to the
hard work of a few. There is a need to enlarge this group
of volunteers. For those who would like to contribute to such
events in future, please contact Sohail Shahzad at 916-821-4931.
